For those who pass the preliminary review, the admission procedure will include an arts audition for students in grades 5 and up and a parental meeting conducted by member(s) of the admissions staff.
The FTAA dance audition focuses on a combination of dance styles and techniques. The dance audition takes approximately one hour. Students will be expected to perform movement combinations under the instruction of the audition panel. Applicants will be evaluated on their potential for a professional career in classical Chinese dance, physique and body alignment, coordination and flexibility, rhythmic accuracy, and ability to reproduce movement combinations.
The FTAA music audition focuses on individual playing skills and orchestral playing skills. The music audition takes approximately half an hour. Applicants will be expected to prepare from memory one solo piece from the Baroque, Classical, or Romantic periods. Students should bring the scores to the audition.
Students should be familiar with all clefs in common use for their instrument. Students may be asked to sight-read a selected orchestral excerpt of the audition panel’s choosing. Piano applicants should also prepare major and minor scales and arpeggios, for at least two octaves, hands together.
