Audition

After passing the initial screening based on the completed application package, applicants and their parents or legal guardians will be scheduled for a live audition or interview. Fei Tian auditions dance and music students beginning with grade 5.

Audition Procedure for Dance

The Fei Tian dance audition focuses on a combination of dance styles and techniques. The dance audition takes approximately one hour. Students will be expected to perform movement combinations under the instruction of the audition panel. Students do not need to prepare a solo, and previous training is not required to be considered for the Beginner-level class. Applicants will be evaluated on their potential for a career in dance, physique and body alignment, coordination and flexibility, rhythmic accuracy, and ability to reproduce movement combinations.

Audition Procedure for Music

The Fei Tian music audition focuses on a combination of solo performance, scales, and sight-reading. The music audition takes approximately half an hour. Applicants will be expected to perform from memory one solo (except for piano as noted below) from the Baroque, Classical, or Romantic periods. Students should bring the scores to the audition. Piano accompaniment is optional, but applicants can make an advance request to the school for an accompanist. Students should be familiar with all clefs in common use for their instrument. Students will be asked to sight-read a selected excerpt of the audition panel’s choosing.

Piano applicants are expected to play by memory two or three solos from the Baroque, Classical, and Romantic periods. They should also prepare major and minor scales and arpeggios, for at least two octaves, hands together. In addition, they will be asked to sight-read two selections of the panel’s choosing.

Trial Period of Enrollment

All new students are required to participate in a trial period of enrollment for a specified duration.
